In 2008, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, bestowed by the Emperor of Japan as the highest distinction awarded by the Japanese government to foreign citizens for their work in promoting Japanese culture abroad.
About the Collection:
The collection is composed of native trees and those from Japan. These trees have been cultivated or acquired by Luis Vallejo over more than 40 years. The collection expresses an understanding of nature, its rules, and a personal way of seeing the art of bonsai that extends to the place they inhabit, from the placement of the tree, its background, the materials, the stones, and the sculptures that accompany it. All of this forms a unique universe, through which a sensorial journey begins, to contemplate, reflect, and experience nature.
The Japanese Garden Bonsai Exhibition features a collection of more than 300 bonsai trees by Luis Vallejo, 17 of which are from the collection of the former Prime Minister, Felipe González. The center offers a wide range of courses, workshops, conferences, and event space.
