The Bilbao City Hall, built in the eclectic style, is classified as a Site of Cultural Interest. Inaugurated in 1892, it is the work of municipal architect Joaquín Rucoba. The interior features three carefully decorated rooms: the reception hall, the plenary hall, and the vestibule. The first of these, known as the Arab Hall, is the true jewel of the building. Another detail worth your attention is the flagpole with the Bilbao flag: white with a red checkered pattern.
You can also see the work of renowned Basque sculptor Jorge Oteiza, entitled “Ovoid Variation of the Emptying of the Sphere.”
*In three images, we see the front facade of Bilbao City Hall, as well as an illustration and another photo of the surroundings along the estuary.
Bilbao City Council allows guided tours of the main rooms of the building. You can check availability on their website: https://www.bilbao.eus/aytoonline
