Hermitage of La Soledad

View on map

Originally, it was dedicated to the apostle Saint James after the conquest of Huelva by Alfonso X the Wise, in which the Order of Santiago must have participated. This is logical, since during the conquest, the Order of Santiago played a leading role within the army of the King of Castile and León. It is considered the first parish church in the town.

The hermitage, which is now open for worship and has hosted the Brotherhood of the Holy Burial since its founding, dates back to the 18th century, as the chronicles of the city of Huelva after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 spoke of the few alterations suffered by the hermitage due to the earthquake.
