Before arriving at its current stadium, Recre, as the Real Club Recreativo de Huelva is popularly known, passed through numerous football fields, including the old Velodrome and the Colombino Stadium.

This New Colombino Stadium was inaugurated in November 2001, and is the work of architect Joaquín Aramburu.

It was designed to revitalize the port area known as the "Barriada de Pescadería" and to provide its owner, Recreativo de Huelva, with a modern and functional stadium in line with the club's sporting expectations.

It just so happens that these were the very fields where football began to be played in the city back in the 19th century.
