Building the farmhouses and tower houses that dot Enkarterri was no easy task. More than 3,000 nails were needed for each building, and they were made here at the El Pobal ironworks . And not just nails: also plows, scythes, fences... and even the swords with which feudal lords fought duels.
Muskiz has kept alive the tradition of the ironworks (built in a beautiful spot on the banks of the Barbadún River ) since the 16th century. The Pobal can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, but on Saturdays at 12:00 the master ironworker surprises visitors with a live demonstration that engulfs the old building in flames.
