Ambite - Two Legends and One Mystery

View on map

Ambite is home to many legends and one mystery. The legends are the beautiful century- old oak at the Palace of the Marquis de Legarda, and the Cross found at the top of Peña de Ambite hill. The mystery is hidden in the bewildering Monumento a los Ojos (Monument to the Eyes), known as Ojoslandia, which is found in the outskirts of the town.

The Tajuña Greenway runs through this area, which is another great reason to come and do this lovely route that runs alongside the Waters of the River Tajuña. The Vega del Tajuña Nature Centre is right next to the river and offers intriguing guided tours, in which you can learn about the ecosystem of Ambite’s beautiful natural landscape.

  • Tortilla Day Festival 3 February

We celebrate this day in the countryside eating tortilla from Ambite, coinciding with the feast of St. Blaise.

  • Feast of the Holy Cross 1 May (midnight on 30 April) and 3 May

Legend has it that a piece of the Holy Cross is kept in the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. Therefore, Ambite’s patron saint feast is the Holy Cross on 3 May, with celebrations beginning at midnight on 30 April and songs dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
