On arriving at Brea de Tajo, among fields of olive trees and grains, you’ll come across the first wonder of town: the Neoclassical Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, one of the greatest churches in the Las Vegas district.
Today, this town is a small village of peace. The stunning facade of St. Michael, which can be placed between the Baroque and Churrigueresque periods, is bound to pique the visitor’s curiosity. Continuing with its unique buildings, at Costanilla de los Ángeles 9, there is a house with a large cave in the basement and a peculiar Inquisition coat of arms that remains a mystery to all.
It is worth getting to know the area surrounding Brea de Tajo by walking the Cañada Real Soriana, a drove road with ancient remains of transhumance, such as the old hut called El Chozo del Quiñonero. And you cannot leave Brea de Tajo without visiting the ‘La Almazara’ Museum of Oil and Customs, offering a first-hand experience of the local olive oil production process.
