Church of Our Lady of the Assumption

View on map

This simple, secluded church, built on the site of an old cemetery, has undergone several changes over the years. It features three naves: one central and two side naves. The central nave ends in an apse featuring an altar with 15th-century paintings that were discovered by chance during the latest renovation of the church.

The nave on the right-hand side contains the sacristy and the altars of the town’s patron saints: Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Toribio.

On the outside we find a small portico supported by 3 columns that locals call the ‘Portalillo’, which served as a Catholic school during the Republic.

In the tower we can see a figure of Our Lady of La Blanca (the town’s first patron saint) and at the top, another of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, acquired by the locals in the 1940s, as thanks for having avoided being seized by Crédito Agrícola.
