Hermitage of Our Lady of La Cabeza

View on map

The Hermitage of Our Lady of La Cabeza is located just outside Pozuelo del Rey, and you can get there via a beautiful path surrounded by pine trees. A beautiful place and stunning Hermitage for the Mother, Queen, Lady and Sovereign Patron Saint of Pozuelo del Rey. The figure of Our Lady of La Cabeza, with her white complexion, stands in a niche that crowns the altar in the centre of the sanctuary of the Hermitage.

Devotion to the Mother and Patron Saint of Pozuelo del Rey is so great, that we can say our Castilian town is a true Marian town. The religious folk festivities for Our Lady of La Cabeza are held on the fourth Sunday of September. This involves worship, flower wreaths and a procession where the people become a ‘Reliquary’ of the Mother of God, walking a route of penitence, full of emotion and infinite love, as we hail ‘Viva!’ to our Patron Saint, Our Lady of La Cabeza.

Devotion to Our Lady of La Cabeza is a feeling experienced all year round, hence the significance of this Hermitage for Pozuelo del Rey.

This 18th-century stone building was erected by the villagers themselves through their efforts and contributions.
