The House of Culture

View on map

The Casa de la Cultura (Culture House) located in Los Santos de la Humosa is a grand manor house built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is a remarkable example of the artistic use of brick in neo-Mudejar architecture. This style is distinguished by its liveliness and freedom, contrasting the rationalistic aura of the nearby Juarranz Foundation. The design of the Culture House incorporates breathtaking brickwork, especially around the upper windows, which are adorned with brick parapets, highlighting the rich texture and complexity of the design.

Architecture from this period is known for being electic, with influences ranging from Classical to Gothic, or in this case, Mudejar. The building technique uses simple materials such as clay, which were transformed into authentic works of art, a tradition that our Muslim ancestors had perfected.

Since 1990, the Culture House has undergone two significant restorations. Today, this building not only retains its architectural brilliance, but it has also become a core centre for the municipality’s cultural and social life. It houses the Municipal Library, which provides the public with internet access, as well as the Adult School, making it an essential place for the local community to gather.
