Washing Place & Water Trough Fountain

View on map

This fountain, with a water trough and washing place, was built at the municipality’s main crossroads. The whole piece is made up of two separate elements: the first is a fountain which served as a water trough; the second is a wash basin which joins the first part by a gutter, with grooved edges for washing clothes.

This fountain/washing place/water trough is a remnant of past times, when women would go there to wash clothes, water jugs were filled and animals would drink. Its great service to the public explains why it was placed at the crossroads, accessible to everyone, locals and travellers alike.

The La Poza ensemble, which includes the fountain and the washhouse, is one of the most outstanding heritage elements of Pozuelo del Rey.
