View on map

In Madrid, you can visit one of Europe's grandest palaces, filled with treasures inside. Commissioned in the 18th century by the first king of the Bourbon dynasty (Philip V), it forms, along with other buildings, one of the capital's most beautiful and historic cityscapes. In addition to the beautiful Plaza de Oriente, admire the Teatro Real, the Almudena Cathedral, the Campo del Moro and Sabatini gardens, and the Monastery of the Encarnación.

At the gates of the Palace, the Solemn Changing of the Guard takes place, as it did in the times of Alfonso XII and Alfonso XIII. It takes place on the first Wednesday of the month at 12:00 noon, except in July, August and September, official events or in bad weather conditions, accompanied by military music. In addition, every Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Changing of the Guard takes place at the Puerta del Príncipe of the Royal Palace, except on days of Solemn Changing of the Guard, official events or in bad weather conditions, every 30 minutes. In full dress uniforms, the guard posts (2 on foot and 2 on horseback) are established in front of the Puerta del Príncipe to the beat of drums and fifes.
