This royal monastery was founded in the 16th century by Princess Joan of Austria, daughter of Emperor Charles I, whose tomb is located in one of its chapels. It houses an important collection of works of art, donated by noble families whose daughters entered the monastery. Among the finest are the frescoes in the staircase and the Miracle Chapel, the tapestries woven in Brussels workshops, numerous works by master painters, and more.
