Designed at the end of the 19th century and begun in 1910, it modernized the city and connected the city center with the new neighborhoods emerging with the expansions (Argüelles, Salamanca, Chamberí). Throughout its construction, it welcomed the capital's most modern architectural projects, becoming a veritable showcase of styles. Almost a kilometer and a half long, it has become one of Madrid's most representative arteries, not only from an urban planning perspective but also for the social, economic, and cultural role it has played in the city's life. In recent years, it has hosted the premieres of international and national musicals, making it the "Broadway" of Madrid.
The Círculo de Bellas Artes (CBA) is a private, non-profit cultural organization based on Calle Alcalá in Madrid. Founded in 1880, it has been declared a "Center for the Protection of Fine Arts and of Public Utility" since 1921. It is a multidisciplinary center, offering activities ranging from the visual arts to literature, including science, music, philosophy, film, and the performing arts. Since its creation, it has carried out significant international work in the fields of cultural creation, dissemination, and management, making it one of the most important private cultural centers in Europe. It has been a founding member of the European Alliance of Academies since October 2020.
