The Cathedral and the Holy Grail

View on map

The Cathedral of Valencia is from the 13th century (13).

It is built on a Roman temple

and before being a cathedral it was a Muslim mosque.

It is of various styles and does not have a main one.

We can see this in its 3 doors,

each one is of a different style:

• The main gate or Iron Gate is baroque,

• The Apostles' Gate is Gothic

• and the Puerta del Palau is Romanesque.

Next to the Puerta de los Hierros is the Miguelete,

which is the bell tower of the Cathedral.

It was built by Andrés Juliá in the Gothic style.

in the 14th (14) and 15th (15) centuries.

It is a tower with an octagonal floor plan and more than 50 meters high.

Inside the Miguelete there is a spiral staircase

which takes us to the terrace,

where we can see the city, the orchard and the sea.

The Chapel of the Holy Chalice was built

separated from the Cathedral in 1356.

Today it is part of the Cathedral,

It is the old Chapter and Study Room .

The Holy Chalice is kept inside.

that Jesus Christ used at the Last Supper,

according to tradition.

Next to the dome of the Cathedral there is a 3-story building.

It is the Obra Nova or Balconets of the Cabildo.

It is a Renaissance style work with a triple Serlian arcade.

which has the function of standing out in the Plaza de la Virgen

and make it more beautiful.
