Ravalet neighborhood

View on map

We are in the traditional Ravalet neighborhood, the first urban center of Mutxamel. The concentration of its houses around a square, their structure, roofs, colors of the facades, and narrow streets define its Moorish origins. With the arrival of the Catalan-Aragonese conquerors, the Muslim population dispersed, and over the years, the layout of this place in the old town has been maintained.

Today, the neighborhood is well connected and integrated into the municipality. Its traditions and uniqueness are also reflected in the preservation of its traditional festivals, held during the first week of September in honor of the Virgin of Montserrat, in the same square where the activities of its ancient inhabitants took place.

The Ravalet festivities, held on September 6 and 8, are dedicated to the Virgin of Montserrat. On September 6, the aborada (aborada) takes place with a large fireworks display at the Montserrat hermitage. On September 8, in the morning, the Flower Offering takes place at the hermitage. Once it's over, people gather to see the colorful flags decorating this square and its narrow streets, participate in the traditional "dandà" (dance) and listen to the traditional firecrackers (fireworks). As night falls, the faithful accompany the Virgin of Montserrat in procession to her hermitage. Afterwards, a street party and dancing take place in this square.

Regarding public education, El Ravalet had a school in the mid-1970s. It later became administratively dependent on the El Salvador school and eventually disappeared.

Currently, the square houses El Casal del Ravalet, a space where the social and educational program is carried out. It works with minors in the socio-educational field, developing strategies for integration and social and community participation.
