Town Hall

View on map

The first written references we have about the Town Hall date back to the 19th century and place it at 14 Sala Marco Street. In 1942, the Municipal Corporation, chaired by the doctor Joaquín Sala Alberola, made a series of agreements that would modify the urban planning of Mutxameler, including the construction of a new town hall, due to the ruin of the previous one.

In 1945, work began on the construction of the new Town Hall, although the final acceptance of the project did not take place the following year, specifically on March 8, 1946. The project was designed by municipal architect Miguel López González, taking into account the geographic, human, economic, and social characteristics of the municipality. The location was determined to be a central point for the opening of new streets, which led to the growth of Mutxamel toward the east of the old town center, and to provide the building with abundant natural light for the various offices.

Over the course of 75 years, the building has undergone a series of renovations, primarily interior renovations, to adapt the facilities to the current needs of the population, and some facilities have been relocated to other buildings. The same is not true of the exterior facades, which remain virtually intact and in good condition. The original electrical system has disappeared, and in 1979, the current heraldic coat of arms representing the municipality was installed.

The Town Hall remains a distinctive and distinctive place. In the Town Hall Square, we find a playground adapted for children's entertainment.

Mutxamel continues to grow and is known throughout the province for its cuisine rich in Alicante's garden produce. The establishments reflect this quality in their dishes. Local businesses offer a wide range of garden produce, such as the famous "Muchamiel" tomato, as well as traditional homemade sausages, renowned wood-fired bread, and typical local sweets. Of particular note are the local restaurants where you can sample the municipality's cuisine. For more information, visit the municipal website www.ayto.mutxamel.org in the Business Directory.

Mutxamel offers nature with a variety of outdoor activities. There are several equestrian centers, the airfield, and the Bonalba Golf Course, as well as an extensive network of local trails that allow you to explore the municipality's surroundings.

Mutxamel is a place to come and enjoy its festivities through the   music, fervor and parades.

The most notable ones are:

On January 5th, the Three Kings Parade, a festival declared of Provincial Tourist Interest in the Valencian Community, takes place. This traditional parade, completely different from those held in other towns in the province, maintains the essence of religious tradition in the setting of the parade, with various biblical scenes appearing, and the participation of local residents and associations, as well as the appreciation of traditional music through their musical groups.

On January 17th, the festival in honor of Saint Anthony the Abbot, known in our municipality as the "Porrat," is celebrated. It is a predominantly agricultural celebration, with the blessing of bread and the active participation of animals, especially horses from all over the province.

Holy Week begins with the Palm Sunday procession. On Holy Wednesday, the Brotherhoods of the Most Holy Christ of Good Forgiveness and La Piedad, and the Brotherhoods of Our Lady of Sorrows and Saint John of the Palm, parade, both of which feature in a moving encounter at the door of the Town Hall. On Holy Thursday, the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of Health marches in the Stations of the Cross. The oldest procession is on Good Friday, with the Brotherhoods of Jesus of Nazareth, the Holy Sepulchre, and La Soledad. The "Encounter Procession" concludes early on Easter Sunday.

The local festival of March 1st, the Miracle of the Tear, is a day on which the people of Mutxamel give thanks to their patron saint for the miracle that occurred on March 1, 1545, when, in response to the prayers of their ancestors, she sent the much-needed beneficial rain. The morning flower offering concludes with High Mass and the solemn procession.

The festival of San Pascual on May 17, revived by the residents of this street, highlights the “roà” to the Saint by So de Mutxamel, the oldest musical group in the region.

April 27th is the Feast of Our Lady of Montserrat, and May 3rd is the Feast of the Vera Creu in the Ravalet neighborhood. It's the weekend closest to May 3rd when the Vera Creu is celebrated, with residents decorating the Cross with flowers and accompanying it with traditional dances to the hermitage of Montserrat, where it is placed for the delight of visitors.

The feast of El Salvador is celebrated on August 6th, a day on which the patron saint is carried in procession alongside the festive flags of the Moors and Christians festivals.

The Ravalet neighborhood festivals are held on September 6 and 8, dedicated to the Virgin of Montserrat. On September 6, the alborada (dawn) takes place with a large fireworks display, and on September 8, in the morning, the flower offering takes place. Once this is over, the traditional "dansà" (dance) and a large earthquake firecracker (fireworks) take place in the square. In the evening, the procession accompanies the image of the Virgin of Montserrat, followed by a festival in Ravalet Square with music and dancing.

The Moors and Christians Festival, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, held from September 7th to 12th, is celebrated in honor of the local patron saint for the miracle performed on September 9th, 1597. This day is a local holiday and a day of religious celebration. From the 10th to the 12th, we can admire the marching bands, the parades of the Moorish and Christian groups, a spectacle of music, color, and excitement. There are also gunfights and embassies.

On October 9, Valencian Community Day is celebrated with a wide-ranging program of activities.

Other festivals such as Carnival and Halloween are also celebrated in the municipality.

Mutxamel is a municipality with a long festive tradition that we invite you to visit and enjoy at any time of year.
