This royal monastery was founded in the 16th century by Princess Joanna of Austria, daughter of Emperor Charles I, whose tomb is located in one of its chapels. It houses an important collection of works of art, donated by noble families whose daughters entered the monastery. Among the finest are the frescoes on the staircase and in the Chapel of the Miracle, tapestries woven in Brussels workshops, numerous works by master painters, and more.
