The original façade of the historic 19th-century canopy overlooks Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, a major road junction in the city, as it is the intersection of several urban arteries (Atocha Street, Paseo del Prado, Paseo de la Infanta Isabel, Avenida de la Ciudad de Barcelona, Méndez Álvaro Street, Paseo de las Delicias, Paseo de Santa María de la Cabeza, and Ronda de Atocha).
