City hall

View on map

In this large square we find one of the city's most emblematic buildings: Benidorm City Hall.

Designed by José Luis Camarasa, municipal architect, and the City Council's architectural team, it opened in 2003 to house various municipal offices and uniquely closes the entrance to this large park.

This building, lying horizontally and raised above the ground, breaks with the vertical image of a city of skyscrapers that includes some of the tallest buildings in Spain, and gives the square where it stands the prominence that corresponds to its role as the seat of municipal government.

The building has already been hailed as an architectural symbol of Benidorm; in fact, just a few weeks after its inauguration, it received one of the most prestigious awards, including the FAD and Construmat.

It stands as an entrance bridge to the park, like a large rectangular container measuring more than 14,000 square meters, almost 100 meters long and 13 meters high, resting on four single pillars.

Another striking feature is the main façade, which features glass panels engraved with the names and surnames of the more than 60,000 people registered in the town during the year its construction was completed.

The construction process was at times spectacular, requiring powerful cranes to install the enormous steel structures that make up its skeleton. In fact, the placement of the building's horizontal metal structure became an event, generating great excitement not only among residents and tourists, but also among architecture and engineering professionals and students.
