Kiosk

View on map

Bandstand in a square with old benches covered with pollarded plane trees.

It was built by Emiliano Pagazaurtundúa in 1912. Its eclectic style shows clear Mudejar and classical influences. The Kiosk is a meeting place, famous for its chicharrillos (dances) and for the concerts offered by the municipal band on alternate Sundays.

Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday throughout the year, around the Music Kiosk, the Plaza del Solar becomes an open-air market, called the "Mercado de las aldeanas," where we have the opportunity to purchase flowers, plants, and garden produce.

Additionally, the statue of Víctor Chávarri is located in the popular “Plaza del Solar” and the Town Hall is located to one side.

Sculpture about 8 meters high crowned by a bust on a pedestal in front of which there are two men

Víctor Chávarri was a businessman, industrialist, and politician from Portugalete, who played a significant role in the economic development of Bizkaia in the 19th century. He founded the "La Vizcaya" factory, which would later become the famous "Altos Hornos de Vizcaya."

The statue is divided into two distinct parts: the bust, by Víctor Chávarri, which is made of bronze and rests on a Carrara marble base; and the figures of two workers: a driller and a blacksmith, also made of bronze. It is an allegory of the industrialization process. The work is by the Catalan sculptor Miguel Blay, executed in 1903. It won him the first gold medal at the 1905 Paris International Exposition.
