Armañón Natural Park

View on map

In few places does nature manifest itself with such splendor as in the Armañón Natural Park. Among its peaks and forests stretches an endless network of paths and more than two hundred caves.

Armañón is one of the natural gems of Enkarterri. The park stretches between the municipalities of Karrantza and Turtzioz and is characterized by its karst landscapes , which are ecologically rich. Thanks to these rock formations, Armañón enjoys a unique microclimate that has allowed Mediterranean holm oak and beech forests to thrive just a few kilometers from the Cantabrian coast.

The park is a celebration of nature , with its lush forests and an endless labyrinth of sinkholes, dolines, dolines, and caves. Its subsoil hides more than 200 caves , many open only to speleologists due to their vast size, such as the Torca del Carlista. The most famous, however, is the Pozalagua cave , chosen as the Best Spot by the Repsol Guide in 2013.

Pozalagua offers a unique spectacle: the world's largest concentration of eccentric stalactites . These millimeter-thick formations seem to defy the laws of gravity and intertwine whimsically to form a spectacular mosaic.

The tour takes you through formations of columns and flowstone until you reach the Versailles chamber, which boasts the highest concentration of eccentric stalactites. The route continues to a viewpoint offering a breathtaking panorama of this subterranean corner of the world .
