Archaeological and historical heritage, traditional cuisine and nature
The charming municipality of Titulcia is a hidden gem right in the heart of the Sureste Regional Park. This picturesque town lies on the confluence of the River Jarama and River Tajuña, offering a breathtaking natural landscape and a rich, fascinating history.
Titulcia’s origins go back to pre-Roman times, with one of its most treasured attractions being the Carpetanian oppidum. An important archaeological site dating back to the 4th-2nd centuries BC, declared a Cultural Heritage Asset in the archaeological site category in 2012. At the site’s Interpretation Centre, you can learn about its history and see a replica of the most significant find: a silver patera.
Titulcia has some remarkable architecture that we welcome you to discover: the Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene, the Hermitage of Our Lady of Solitude, the beautiful main square of Plaza Mayor, the ancient Charles III stone bridge over the Tajuña and the iron bridge over the Jarama.
We recommend going up to its viewpoints to see one of the most beautiful sunsets in Madrid, where the sun reflects off the rivers in the hiking area of Soto Bayona y sus Cortados.
Another must-see is the fascinating Moon Cave, and we recommend topping off your visit with wine and olive oil tasting at the Viña Bayona winery and La Aceitera de La Abuela oil mill. And you cannot possibly leave without trying the local cuisine available at a wide range of bars and restaurants.
