This building corresponds to the old "El Salvador" school, built in 1930 and inaugurated in October 1932, its architect being Ildefonso Bonells Rexach. The original Art Nouveau building has been preserved. This school operated as such until the end of the 21st century. It also housed the Rafael Rodríguez Albert Municipal Conservatory in its early years.
Notable among his students are the ceramist Arcadi Blasco Pastor and the physicist José Bernabéu Alberola, after whom the Multipurpose Social Center-City Hall building, which can be seen opposite the market, is named.
For several years it was used by different associations, musicals, dances, and festivals.
Following the renovation and refurbishment work, it now houses the municipal food market.
The market is located on Av. Carlos Soler, one of the main arteries of the municipality, which owes its name to Mr. Carlos Soler Poveda, born in 1886. He was mayor between 1925 and 1935. During his term, he inaugurated various public fountains, in the Plaza Nova, in Poble Nou and in Ravalet in September 1927. He also inaugurated the Virgen de Loreto cemetery. in the year 1926.
