Reseda hookeri

View on map

Santa Susanna beach is home to the only population of the sea snail (Reseda hookeri) on the Iberian Peninsula. This species is native to the western Mediterranean (Malta, Italy, France, Algeria, etc.) and was considered extinct in Catalonia until its recent discovery in 2015.

Its presence, together with other typical species of coastal sands such as the sea jull (Elymus farctus), the sea poppy (Glaucium flavum), the sea lotus (Loto crecicus), the coastal melgó (Medicago littoralis), the barrella punxosa (Salsola kali) or the beach silene (Silene niceensis), not only beautifies the town's beaches but also reveals a good environmental quality.
