Approaching a person with a guide dog

What would you do if you approached a blind person with their guide dog?

Do not touch, call to, or pet the guide dog while it is working. Ignore the dog while it is working and, if necessary, speak to the person.

Do not feed the dog. Keep food away from the guide dog.

Don't block the way. Leave space for the dog-user team.

Do not photograph or distract the assistance animal. Respect the guide dog's concentration.

Don't talk to the companions as if the blind person weren't there. Speak directly to the blind person.

Don't be offended if the person can't stop to let the dog be petted. Understand that there are situations where the person is able to stop to pet the dog, but it's not the norm when the dog is working.

Don't complain about the presence of a guide dog in a public place. Respect, encourage, and help guide dogs access public spaces.

Don't encourage children to approach and touch the guide dog by telling them it's very good and won't do anything. Teach young children not to interfere with the guide dog's work.
