The City of Arts and Sciences
is the most important group of buildings
in the city of Valencia.
It was designed by the Valencian architect
Santiago Calatrava.
One of the buildings houses the Oceanográfic.
The Oceanográfic is the largest
aquarium in Europe.
In the Oceanográfic of Valencia you can see
the world's most important marine ecosystems.
The people working at the Oceanográfic
work to improve and conserve
marine species and their natural environment.
They also rescue and cure sick animals
arriving off the coast of Valencia.
For example, they rescue sea turtles
that were trapped on the coast of Valencia
or protect posidonia.
Posidonia is an aquatic plant.
Posidonia is one of the most important plants
in the sea because it is
a refuge for many marine species
and helps to improve water quality.
