Devesa del Saler is a natural setting
with a lot of vegetation
and many different species of animals.
La Devesa del Saler separates the L'Albufera lake
from the Mediterranean Sea.
Plans were made in the 1960s to develop the area
and build a marina.
The construction of the marina put
the ecosystem of the Devesa at risk.
Marina: Coastal area where a harbour, buildings and various shops are built.
As a result, the citizens joined together
to stop this project.
Afterwards, they did a great job in recovering
the coastal dunes.
Coastal dunes are mountains of sand
that helped to protect the L'Albufera lagoon.
They also set up municipal nurseries to recover
trees and plants in the area.
L'Albufera became a natural park in 1986.
