The building where the Museum of Fine Arts is located
It was built by the architect Juan Bautista Pérez Castiel
to be the San Pío Seminary College,
founded by Juan Tomás de Rocabertí, archbishop of Valencia, in 1683.
The College was built between 1683 and 1744.
Its church was destroyed in 1925.
Throughout its history, the building has had different uses.
It has been a military cadet academy, a charity house ,
army warehouse and military hospital.
Until it became the Museum of Fine Arts in 1946.
In the museum we can enjoy paintings,
drawings and prints , sculptures, mobile art
and some pieces of historic buildings
and architectural art.
It stands out for its collections of paintings.
It has a good selection of painters
which they call the Valencian Primitives,
who are Valencian painters from the end of the 14th century (14)
until the beginning of the 16th century (16).
Like Alcanyís, Nicolau, Jacomart and Reixach.
It also has a good collection
of painters of the Valencian school.
Like Joanes, the Ribaltas, Espinosa,
Vicente López, Sorolla or Pinazo.
Finally, we must highlight other great artists.
Like Pintoricchio, Andrea del Sarto,
Van Dyck, Murillo, Velázquez, El Greco and Goya.
