The Oceanogràfic is the largest aquarium in Europe.
It has capacity for 45,000 living beings of 500 different species.
It is an avant-garde style construction
which was created to investigate, educate
and bring the marine world closer in a fun way
to the entire population.
The most important ecosystems are represented in its spaces
of each of the seas and oceans of the planet.
It has 10 buildings:
Mediterranean:
It has 9 aquariums with about 7,400 fish and invertebrates
living in the Mediterranean Sea.
Wetlands:
An impressive 26-meter-high dome
imitates 2 of the most curious wetlands on the planet,
the American mangrove and the Mediterranean marsh.
Temperate and Tropical:
There are several connected aquariums
through a 70-meter-long underwater tunnel,
which is the longest in Europe.
We take a trip through these aquariums
by the temperate zones of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
Oceans:
It is the largest aquarium, it has 7 million cubic meters .
It represents a journey across the Atlantic Ocean
from the Canary Islands to Bermuda.
We travel through a tunnel where we can see many species,
such as the bull shark, the grey shark or the sunfish.
Antarctic:
A colony of penguins lives here.
We can see them in an imitation
from a cliff of rocks,
where there are areas to lay eggs
and to raise the chicks.
Arctic:
The Arctic zone is a large igloo -shaped dome .
Imitates rocky cliffs and ice forests
which are the habitat of walruses and belugas.
Belugas are one of the most curious mammals on the planet.
Islands:
This building is outdoors
and represents the islands off the South American coast,
where there are large colonies of Patagonian sea lions.
Red Sea - Underwater Auditorium:
The Auditorium is a large room with a scallop -shaped ceiling.
It can accommodate 466 people.
The backdrop is an impressive aquarium
representing the Red Sea.
Underwater Restaurant:
It is the most characteristic building of the Oceanogràfic
for its curious roof reminiscent of a water lily ,
designed by Félix Candela.
It has a large aquarium on the lower floor.
The Restaurant is in the center of the park.
Dolphinarium:
It is one of the largest dolphinariums in the world
and the most important in Europe.
It has 5 pools that hold 26 million cubic meters of water.
and a depth of 10 and a half meters.
It can accommodate up to 30 dolphins.
There are stands in front of the pools
where 1,500 people can fit.
In addition to all these buildings,
In the Oceanogràfic we find the Access Building,
the Education and Research Building,
the marine wildlife care zone
and several shopping and restaurant locations.
