In the back of the Alcobendas Municipal Archives, there is a unique document containing details of an interesting event in the social and religious life of this town. It is a copy of the information about the miracle of the multiplication of wine performed by the Virgin of Peace on January 25, 1677.
The incident occurred at the home of one of the priests, who had used a small jar of wine for the celebration of the Virgin's feast. The jar had been emptying over the previous days, but on the morning of January 25th, the jar was still full, and wine was still being drawn from it without diminishing its contents. Word spread, and the parish priest was informed so that this could be certified by a notary or scribe, under oath, by 29 witnesses.
After the appearances, proceedings, memorial, decree and report were made, the opinions of the ecclesiastical authorities were drafted and thus, in the city of Toledo on April 10, 1677, the prodigy that occurred in the town of Alcobendas was declared a miracle.
It was ordered to be published in the Parish Church and through the necessary offices, leaving the original text written in Toledo.
The copy dated April 11, 1794, signed by the then Town Clerk, Félix Sanz Palomares, remained in the Municipal Archives, and we make that copy available to all citizens of Alcobendas who wish to consult it through the images of the full document collected on the institutional website.
