El Regato is one of the last rural neighborhoods in Barakaldo. Iron was also extracted from its mountains and transported to the estuary. From that time, some remains of mining operations remain scattered throughout its hills. The road that runs along the Castaños River to Barakaldo uses the route left by the Luchana-Mining company's railway, which was dismantled in the 1940s. This neighborhood of orchards and cherry trees has been a place of stroll and recreation for Barakaldo residents for decades, who continue to come here today to enjoy its restaurants and walks in a privileged natural setting.
