The textured photo shows a cross-section of the canal through which fluid drains from the eye and the surrounding tissues. The epithelium is at the top, and the canal through which the fluid drains is in the center of the photo.
In the exhibition, we show two photographs, one taken with electron microscopy and the other with light microscopy. They show the same thing: the canal through which fluid exits the anterior part of the eye, called Schlemm's Canal. This canal is very important because its obstruction can cause glaucoma, but in whales, it is very large and surrounded by rigid tissue that protects it from possible deformations caused by pressure changes.
