Church of St. Mary Magdalene

View on map

Built in the late 15th or early 16th century, during the Renaissance period, the Church of St. Mary Magdalene is one of the most valuable buildings in Ciempozuelos. The impressive bell tower, built between 1567 and 1575 from Colmenar limestone ashlar blocks, is the work of renowned architect and stonemason Hernando Pineda. The original structure was extended, with a Baroque brick chancel added in the 17th century. Inside, special mention should be made of the magnificent Baroque altarpiece and the great oil painting by painter Claudio Coello, two of the many artistic and cultural treasures of our heritage. Without a doubt, it is a place of great historical value inviting all to discover and admire it.

One of the most valuable monuments. Its bell tower stands out, built with limestone ashlar from Colmenar de Oreja. It was built in the 16th century and enlarged during the 17th century, when the Baroque brick chancel was added.
