Ciempozuelos - A wealth of culture, nature and cuisine on the banks of the River Jarama

In the town centre of Ciempozuelos you will find outstanding buildings such as the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, dating back to the Renaissance, with an impressive tower. One of its squares honours the creator of the famous Cibeles and Neptune Fountains in Madrid, as this is the birthplace of great architect Ventura Rodríguez, Master Builder of the city of Madrid in the 18th century. The square of Plaza de Constitución also stands out, which has preserved its old Castilian spirit through its old wooden porticoed buildings. Ciempozuelos guards a surprising secret in its depths: the water mines, with tunnels that extend for several metres. You can visit them under the main square, Plaza Mayor.

    • Los Toros de Fuego Mid-September

There are lots of festivals in Ciempozuelos, but one is particularly unique in the Madrid Region: Los Toros de Fuego (literally ‘The Bulls of Fire’) which happens during the patron saint celebrations in mid September.     • The fresh produce grown in Ciempozuelos has a well-earned reputation for its high quality, thanks to its prime location in the fertile lowlands of the River Jarama. The town’s artisan pure sheep’s milk cheeses have also won awards worldwide for their excellent flavour and quality. Ciempozuelos also has its own livestock, and for all these reasons you can’t possibly miss out on trying the wonderful food based on its rich variety of farm produce, the result of tradition, creativity and hard work.
