Monastery of the Poor Clares

View on map

Construction of this building began in the 16th century, although it wasn't founded until the 17th century by the 5th Counts of Chinchón. The characteristic architecture of the Spanish Baroque style is evident. The complex includes a church with a Latin cross floor plan and the convent. The cloister, is particularly noteworthy, consisting of two levels: the lower level is made of stone with semicircular arches, while the upper level is enclosed by simple brick walls and lintelled windows with stone frames. The exterior of the building is characterized by its austerity, using materials such as brick and coffered masonry. The pantheon of the 5th Counts of Chinchón, crafted from multicolored marble, is located in the choir of the convent church. The nuns currently make exquisite sweets that can be purchased at the convent.
