Morata de Tajuña is the perfect place to spend a full day out. Its vibrant atmosphere, with outdoor terraces and shops, invites visitors to take a walk and discover its famous pastries, palmeritas.
It also offers walking routes, scenic viewpoints and museums where you can learn about its rich history. Its main landmark is the 17th-century Church of Our Lady of The Conception, a Renaissance building with a remarkable altarpiece on the high altar. Behind the town hall, in the square called Plaza de la Cultura Martín Chirino, stands the most important civil building in Morata de Tajuña: Mac-Crohon House, a unique late 19th-century mansion, now a social and cultural building. But the building most loved by locals is the Hermitage of Our Lady of La Antigua, patron saint of the town, a small 17th-century building.
Morata de Tajuña holds the Battle of Jarama close in its memory, which took place not far from here. In the Mesón El Cid lodging house, there is an intriguing museum about this battle. Another wonderful place in Morata is the Milling Museum, with milling machinery and information about the entire milling process and the power of water.
Morata is also home to an excellent winery which is part of Madrid Wine Route, where you can try some of the best wines in the region.
Morata de Tajuña has yet more to offer: the beautiful Tajuña Greenway, a natural path perfect for a stroll or hike while taking in the river scenery.
