Olmeda de las Fuentes - A white-walled town with art, history and traditions

View on map

In Olmeda de las Fuentes, the locals take care of every little detail of their homes. This has created a picture-perfect town. Every door and every window has its own decoration and detail, like flowers and cats sleeping lazily in the sun. There is no place more idyllic than this. A beautiful town with white-washed houses, resting in the middle of a little orchard.

It is no surprise that, for many years now, so many artists have chosen this spot in Madrid as a place to live and work, given the beautiful landscapes that surround it. In fact, there is a painters walking route through the town centre. Another recommended route through the town is dedicated to the most famous person from Olmeda: Pedro Páez, who discovered the Blue Nile springs in 1618.

There’s also the route to the fabulous La Pica Oak, an ancient living being, whose majesty is bound to amaze you. This is a truly idyllic experience, and can be done on horseback, by bike or on foot.

Join us in celebrating our most famous festivals

  • Valmores Pilgrimage Easter Monday

The second-most important festival is on Easter Monday, held at the Alameda de Valmores. The whole town goes there with food to be cooked over fire. They make potato omelettes, lamb, etc., alongside some of the local community from Nuevo Baztán, so closely linked to the history of La Olmeda

  • Huge Tortilla. Feast of Cristo del Olvido Fourth Sunday in September

A huge tortilla is cooked in the evening, with woodfires, in Plaza de la Villa. There are also competitions for the best decorated house, which is why the town is always decorated with flowerpots on the balconies

  • Craft Christmas Market Second Saturday of December

Market to promote and sell artisan products mostly from this district, but also from other places in the region. Throughout the day there are lots of activities such as music performances, juggling and storytelling. You can also enjoy migas (fried breadcrumbs with chorizo) and local wine.
