The Church of St. Nicholas of Bari and St. Peter the Martyr
It was created around the year 1242.
It is one of the first 12 Christian parishes
that were created in Valencia
after James I reconquered the city in 1238.
Between 1419 and 1455, the Borgia family renovated it in the Gothic style.
and they built the Gothic ribbed vault in the central nave.
Between 1690 and 1693 the interior was redecorated.
with baroque decoration and frescoes
showing the life of Saint Nicholas of Bari and Saint Peter Martyr.
Antonio Palomino designed the fresco scenes
and Dionís Vidal painted them.
The church has been recently restored ,
That's why we can enjoy these paintings
which experts call the Valencian Sistine Chapel .
This restoration is the most important
in the world to this day.
Because of the amount of work it took
and the care and detail that went into making it.
Every Monday hundreds of visitors come to the church
who do the St. Nicholas Walk
or the Devotion to Saint Jude Thaddeus,
patron saint of impossible causes.
You can visit the church with or without a guided tour.
