Belmonte de Tajo - Nature, festivities and wine

View on map

The old centre of Belmonte is made up of small streets with one-storey houses. Within the town, the Church of Our Lady of the Star is a must-see. Next to it we find its beautiful Plaza Mayor, the main square around which the town of Belmonte is structured. With a square shape and supports made of Colmenar de Oreja stone, it contains a circle of sand used as a bullring during its celebrations.

One of Belmonte’s main assets is its scenery, a natural environment of contrasting colours, where the moor meets the plain. The best areas in the town to go for a walk are Pinar de la Encomienda (a pine forest), Alameda del Horcajuelo (a poplar grove) and Paseo de las Fuentes (the fountains route). And you cannot leave Belmonte de Tajo without trying some wine from the two wineries featuring in the Madrid Region’s wine tourism tour.
