Pere Bofill built the Quart Towers
as defensive gates of the city.
They are an example of military constructions
of the late Gothic style.
Bofill was inspired by the towers of Castell Nuovo in Naples
to design these for Valencia.
They were called the Torres de la Cal until 1874,
because in the 18th century (18) all the lime
that entered Valencia had to pass through the Towers.
Later the back facade was discovered
so that the interior can be seen,
which was used as a women's prison
for a while.
