The Silk Museum shows us the importance
who had the silk trade in Valencia
for more than 3 centuries.
In the Museum we can see:
• old working looms ,
• a platform where silkworms were raised,
• work tools,
• silk fabrics,
• antique costumes,
• historical documents
• and more treasures.
The Silk Museum is in a building
which mixes Gothic and Baroque styles
and which was the headquarters of the College of the Major Art of Silk
since the 15th century (15).
The Museum has 3 main rooms of great interest:
• The Hall of Fame.
It was the main room
the leaders met there
from the College of the Major Art of Silk.
The most interesting elements of the room
They are the fresco by José Vergara on the ceiling
and the Valencian ceramic floor from the 18th century (18).
• The chapel.
It is decorated with white and green tiles
that create a sensational visual sensation.
• The historical archive
Keeps many old documents
that tell the story of the guild .
The Hortensia Herrero Foundation facilitated the restoration
of this important cultural heritage .
Thanks to this we can know and rescue the legacy
that the silk industry left in Valencia.
We can still see this legacy today.
in the typical costumes of the Valencian festivals.
The museum also has a restaurant
and we can finish the visit at the Espai Seda store,
where we will find interesting silk souvenirs,
such as handkerchiefs, ties, children's games or jewelry.
