Anchuelo celebrates a range of popular, much-loved festivals, but the Live Nativity performance, which has been celebrated for over 10 years, has taken on a special significance. The whole town gets involved in this performance, spread over several streets of the town, and the actors are the residents of Anchuelo themselves. The lights go off, the sound goes down on televisions and radios across the town, and silence prevails in the streets which, for a few hours, transform into a Live Nativity lit up by candles and torches.
The performance usually takes place the weekend before Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. To see it, you must sign up at the Town Hall, as visits are pre-arranged in groups. The experience is truly worth it, especially if someone treats you to a hot chocolate or soup after the performance.
