In Memory of the Parish Priest of Campo Real — † 29 July 1936
Born in Bernardos (Segovia) on 3 November 1877, Valentín began his pastorate in 1902 in Nava de la Asunción. He was the parish priest of Losana de Pirón and San Agustín de Guadalix, where he found a Catholic syndicate that helped the locals most in need. In 1926, he moved to Campo Real. He was known for his kindness and the help he gave to those who needed it. At the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, a family offered him asylum in a cave in their own house (currently Calle San Juan 25). He hid there, secretly helped by the generosity of many townspeople. Discovered on 29 July 1936 by the militia squad in the town at the time, he was brutally martyred and murdered. His body was left unburied, and it was not long after that his remains were interred in the parish church with a commemorative plaque. In 2023, his beatification process began, and in 2024 there are plans to rename a street in his memory. The Campo Real cemetery, renovated and expanded in 2004, was blessed in 2005 by the Bishop of Alcalá, Monsignor Jesús Catalá.
