From the outside, the church of Añua features one of the most aesthetic and elaborate apses in the whole province of Álava. It is a polygonal chancel, richly decorated in its carved windows and in the collection of corbels preserved under the eaves.
Inside, two construction phases can be appreciated: an initial medieval stage in a Romanesque style already pointing towards Gothic solutions; and a major 16th-century expansion with an impressive vault decorated with grisaille mural painting.
In the chancel area, important remains of red wall painting were recovered. This is the building’s original painted finish, notably including a fragment of a battle scene with several crossbowmen besieging a castle.
