2. Miró Foundation

View on map

Joan Miró had a dream, and he fulfilled it in his home in Mallorca: he was able to design two studios where he could unleash his creative potential, which was particularly intense in this final stage of his life. We're talking about the most experimental, most groundbreaking Miró, the Miró who used (and altered) all kinds of surfaces and worked on them with different parts of his own body. Fortunately, both studios remain intact, just as they were after the brilliant artist's death. Canvases, paintbrushes, stains on the floor, and charcoal sketches of future works on the walls... Visiting these two studios, the Taller Sert and Son Boter, both declared Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC), offers a privileged and intimate insight into the master's work and creative process.

And then there's the Moneo Building, which alone is worth a visit. Designed by the brilliant architect Rafael Moneo, it provides the perfect setting for displaying Miró's permanent collection. The building, blending seamlessly with its natural surroundings, bathes the interior of the galleries in a warm light filtered through the translucent alabaster panels that dot some of the walls. This is yet another experience, and there are many, offered by this unique and, therefore, essential visit.
